About this clinic

WIC helps pregnant women, new mothers and young children eat well, stay healthy and be active. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). WIC provides food and support. Nutrition education and individual counseling help families establish lifelong healthy habits. Pregnant women receive the specialized assistance to establish successful breastfeeding. WIC helps link families with other community resources. WIC encourages the consumption of the fresh fruits and vegetables grown in the Central Valley through the distribution of special vouchers for farmer’s markets during the summer months. MCCAA has WIC sites located throughout Merced and Mariposa counties serving over 17000 participants per month.

Michelle : On November 7th 2022 at 3:30 pm, I had an in person WIC appointment that was important for my child who only receives WIC’s assistance for two more months before cut off date. I’m grateful for the help we have received and I have had all great experiences with the staff I’ve encountered, expect for today. A woman with dark brown (almost red looking) hair, styled in a high bun with what looked to be false eyelashes, was very rude. I was sent a message by WIC days prior reminding me of an upcoming appointment and to bring my child, and proof of income and address ONLY. When I show up to my appointment and sign in, the receptionist did not seem happy and did not put in any effort to give a polite greeting. She asked me for income and address and I provided her with both. She then asks why I did not bring my child’s medical card. I told her that I did not and was not asked to. She replied “this is not your first appointment, how could you not know this?” With a disappointed look on her face. I once again stated I was told to bring two things only. I also told her I did not appreciate being talked to like a child. (I wouldn’t even talk to my own child in a condescending tone.) She told me I would have to reschedule this Thursday. I was unable to get her name but I hope the description helps.
