About this clinic
The estimated value of one year’s worth of WIC healthy food coupons for a family of one woman with a 4-month-old baby, getting formula, and a 3-year-old child is $3,200. What would you do if you had that much money available because you weren’t spending it on groceries? WIC is a supplemental healthy food program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for infants and children up to age five and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women. The Catawba County WIC office serves a monthly case load of over 4,000 participants. In addition to providing nutritional guidance and food packages, the WIC office has two breastfeeding peer counselors and two Lactation Consultants to assist clients who have questions and concerns about breastfeeding. The staff provides encouragement and guidance for breastfeeding, which may include supplies such as manual and electric breast pumps for women who meet the criteria.
