Aretha Washington: Greetings. I am Aretha Washington, Community School Facilitator for Deep Creek Magnet Middle Community School.  Community Schools are public schools that provide services and support to fit each neighborhood’s needs, created, and run by the people who know our children best – families, educators, community organizations, local governments, and the students themselves – all working together. Community schools provide tremendous opportunities for learning and success for students and offer hope, opportunity, and transformation to entire communities.  At Deep Creek, we are a Title I low-income school with a population of 800 students of which 100% receive free and reduced lunch. Of our student population we have the majority being of African American, Latinx, and White ethnicity. We have a high transient and homeless rate with over 450 families served monthly at our food pantry and care closet. I would like to ask you assistance with our back to school resource fair. We are contacting you on behalf of our Community Middle School because we need back-to-school assistance products or assistance with teacher breakfast or back to school night. We are hosting a back-to-school block party on August 31 and would love for you to join us. The purpose of this event is to provide a safe space and opportunity for families to interact with our staff and each other. We have several activities during the event that require attendees to be active. You are welcome to donate or come and physically participate. Our students need school supplies, hygiene supplies, household cleaning products, or care packages for ages 11-14 neutral gender are welcome. Another initiative is to supply teacher incentives, donations in kind for Teacher Appreciation, and snacks monthly for our students.  As you can see, the need is great, and any assistance you can give would be much appreciated.  Thank you for your consideration and attention to this matter. You may contact me at (443) 809-0112 (office), (443) 722- 8607 (cell), or awashington3@bcps.org.    Thank you so much for your consideration.  Respectfully,  Mrs. Aretha Washington Community School Facilitator Deep Creek Magnet Middle Community School Building Positive Relationships to Yield Progressive Change
