About this clinic

The Women, Infants and Children Nutrition Program, popularly known as “WIC”, helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children learn about nutrition to stay healthy. Nutrition education and counseling, nutritious foods, and help accessing health care are provided to low-income women, infants, and children through the WIC program. WIC also refers clients to a variety of health and social service agencies and programs. Studies show that WIC plays an important role in improving birth outcomes and containing health care costs. WIC has a positive impact on children’s diets. WIC improves infant feeding practices by actively promoting breastfeeding as the best method of feeding infants. WIC clients have improved rates of childhood immunizations and a regular source of health care. Other health benefits of WIC include: Improved infant-feeding practices; Premature births reduced; Fetal death rate reduced; Infant low birth weight reduced; Long-term medical expenses reduced; Improved dietary intake; Improved cognitive development; Fewer premature births
